SEXY Foods | Making your Valentines Day Hot and Healthy!

The word “aphrodisiac” comes from the Greek Goddess of love, Aphrodite and is a term for a substance that helps you get in that “bow chica bow wow” mood… if you know what I mean. So… with the big V-Day coming up, I thought what better foods to share with you on “Foodie Friday” than healthy and natural aphrodisiacs that you can add to your Valentines Day to spice things up a bit! 🙂 Hint: the end of the article has some bonus hot and healthy tips! DARK CHOCOLATE– Of course this is the dessert of love, Valentine’s day is practically the holiday of chocolate. The reason can be linked to it’s content of phenylethylamine, a stimulant related to amphetamine, which is also released in the brain when people fall in love. However because of the small amounts, researchers think it’s all in our heads… but hey, if it works it works! Plus, it’s another reason to enjoy dark chocolate, right??! (The darker the better) RED WINE- This is known as the XXX of the aphrodisiacs. It lowers inhibitions and helps you relax better than a shoulder massage. Red Burgundy wine mixed with ginger, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, and a little sugar is known as “Hippocras’ Aphrodisiac”. Red wine also offers the potent antioxidant resveratrol which is linked to heart health. Cheers to that! (drink in moderation, excess leads to drowsiness… and that is not sexy or healthy!) ASPARAGUS- This jolly green giant can help set the mood. 😉 It has nutrients that stimulate your nervous and circulatory systems and help with blood circulations, allowing for heightened experiences… Just another great reason to add this super healthy green into your diet! Fun fact: “asparagus” comes from the French word “asperge” which is a slang term for the male sex organ! Who knew?! OYSTERS- Yes, it’s cliche… but still true! These shellfish are brimming with zinc, a mineral that amps up testosterone production, which is linked to stronger libido. Zinc also helps support optimal smell and taste, heightening your senses. Add a little squeeze of lemon juice and a spicy sauce and see where the night takes you… POMEGRANATE– This fancy fruit is packed with passion power! It has been crowned as the symbol of Aphrodite herself in ancient Greek Mythology. Pomegrantes are even mentioned in the romantic writings of Shakespear when Juliet is trying to convince Romeo that it is not yet day break. “Every night the nightingale chirps on that pomegranate-tree.” Beyond its sensual symbolism, they are full of antioxidants that allow better blood circulation. So pop open a pomegranate and get the passion flowing. HONEY– They don’t call it a honeymoon for nothing! Ancient customs prepared a drink made with honey to sweeten their marriage.  If anything, you could get the mood going by drizzling a little honey on your honey and kissing it off. 😉 This bee’s treat also has cancer fighting and wound-healing powers. NUTMEG- This savory spice has been embraced as a sensual seasoning because of its ability to heat up the body and sweeten the breath. The smell alone can evoke a sense of comfort and ease. So sprinkle on your food to prepare you for dessert. 🙂 AVOCADO– Known as the “chocolate of fruits” avocados have been thought to increase desirability dating back to the Mayans in 200BC. Try it now in 2012 and see if you think the Mayans were right… Bonus Tips and Tricks to a Healthier Love Life
