Weekly Challenge: Stay Positive

In our last week of Self Improvement September, I am challenging you to STAY POSITIVE.  This might seem like an easy task at first, you may not even feel like you are a negative person… but by keeping this challenge on your mind this week, you may be surprised at how much negative talk you have during a normal day. They sneak up on us; simple little thoughts that become so habit, we don’t even realize they are there. (“I can’t” “It’s too hard” “I don’t know how” “I’ll never..” “I’m not..”)   It’s important for us to remove this negative self talk or “stinkin’ thinkin’” in order for us to reach our potential. You are the only person who can hold yourself back from your dreams. So get out of your way this week by staying positive, finding the silver lining, putting on those rose colored glasses and smiling through it all this week.    Not every day is rainbows and butterflies…true! Not every day we feel like being energetic, dedicated and disciplined. Some days are harder than others, however it’s our choice in those days on what we focus on. If you look hard enough, there is a positive to every negative… find it and hold on to it. Even if it’s simply the gratitude of having a body that is able to run, motivating you enough to DO IT!   2013-09-22 23.39.21   7 BENEFITS OF BEING A POSITIVE THINKER   STRESS LESS It has been shown that when faced with stressful situations positive thinkers cope better than pessimists. Being positive allows the feeling of more control over a situation, allowing the person to see the potential ways of solving a problem instead of feeling trapped, dwelling on what can’t be changed.   UPLIFTING IMMUNITY Happy thinkers have a stronger immune response. Stinker thinkers tend to have weaker immune systems, which can lead to more illnesses. Smile and stay healthy!   WELL BEING Those good thoughts can improve your overall well being including reduced risk of death from cardiovascular problems, less depression and increased lifespan. This is the mind-body connection at it’s finest!   LiKE ATTRACTS LIKE This “law of attraction” proves that similar energies attract one another. Therefore the more positive you are in your life, the more positive people and events you will bring into your life. In the same way, the more negative you are… So choose to be a happy magnet! Watch all the good things start to get pulled into your life once you change your mindset!    DREAMS DO COME TRUE What ever you think about, you bring about. This is the key behind the power of positive affirmations and why I like to use them on a regular basis. If you meditate upon what you want in your life instead of what you don’t want you are more likely to get it. Tip: If you are wanting to lose weight, don’t think negative, (“I am fat, I need to lose weight”) instead think positive, (“I am going to lose weight because I love my self enough”). The positive thoughts always win!   DEEPEN YOUR LOVE When we choose to look at the sunny side, we see the good things in people instead of focusing on their not-so-awesome qualities. This allows us to create quality connections in our lives by appreciating others more.   BE YOU TIFUL When you have a positive mindset, your inner beauty will shine through making you appear more attractive. Smiling, friendly and happy people are just simply way more beautiful! Don’t you agree?   I am so happy we are doing this challenge this week because just this morning before finishing this blog post I had several things happen that could immediately put someone in a bad mood:   1. I dropped my 1/2 finished Kombucha on the kitchen tile and it EXPLODED everywhere. 2. I forgot to open the doggy door this morning and my puppy decided to go to the bathroom inside. 3. After an intense outdoor cardio session I sat down to relax… on a bed of ants!   Instead of getting irritated, heated and annoyed… I took a dose of my own medicine, I brushed it all off and looked at the bright side of every situation {the tile needed to be mopped anyway, I have a healthy and happy puppy, and I didn’t get bitten!}   You sometimes can’t control what happens to you, but you can always control how you respond to it. I hope that staying positive this week will have a transformative effect on your life!   While thinking happy thoughts won’t make us all fly off to Never Never Land and make all of our troubles go away… it will help us appreciate our life more, keep us healthier, more beautiful and motivated to be our best self.     Here are some pins for you this week:  Check out the September-Self Improvement board for more pinspiration!  stay positive1 stay positive3 stay positive4 stay positive5 stay positive6   In Health and Happiness, Lauren McBride
